I use vanilla custard to fill eclairs and cream puffs. It is easy to do (just don’t forget to stir) and tastes delicious!
This custard can also be spread thin dry layers of multi-layer cakes such as “Napoleon”.
Vanilla custard calls for egg yolks, so you can find these recipes which call for egg whites somewhat useful.

I've never made custard before. Trying this out to make in chocolate cups I'm going to make for Christmas Eve. Would you recommend whole milk for this recipe? Thank you!
I usually cook with whole milk, to that matter, I do recommend Snowville Creamery whole milk, if you can get it - it is the best in my opinion.
Recipe was great easy to follow and lovely taste thank you
Thank you!
The recipe is awesome... Thankyou for it I added a whole lot of sugar though I like it sweet....
Yea, salt and sugar are there things which everybody have their own feeling about :)
Thanks for your comment!
Great recipe. I heated the milk in the microwave, added some hot milk to the egg mix, then put the whole lot back in the microwave mixed together. I find there to be less work involved in microwaving and much less risk of lumps - stunning.
